LEDO - BURMA ROAD (16 Days, 15 nights)

RANGOON - MYITKYINA - TANAI (WALAWBUM) - MOGOUNG VALLEY - BHAMO - NAMKHAN - MUSE - LASHIO - MAYMYO - MANDALAY - BAGAN - YENANGYAUNG - TAUNGOO - RANGOON

DAY 1: ARRIVAL
Welcome at the airport and city orientation tour of downtown area. Overnight in Rangoon.
Accommodation: Sedona hotel or similar

DAY 2: RANGOON - MYITKYINA BY AIR (2 hours)
UB783 from Rangoon to Myitkyina. (Operates Mon, Fri, Sat & Sun only)
Upon arrival, we visit nearby villages, the Baptist Church of Myitkyina, Old Cemetery and former RAF/USAAF airfield. Overnight in Myitkyina.
Accommodation: Xing Xian hotel or similar

DAY 3: MYITKYINA - TANAI BY CAR
The journey will take us about 6 hours. Overnight in Tanai.
Accommodation: Shwe Pin Le guest house

DAY 4: TANI - SHIN BWI YANG - TANAI BY CAR
Sightseeing in Tanai and environ and proceed to Shin Bwi Yang. Today we will visit the gold mine there and transfer to the nearest area of the Ledo Road, as near as the Indian border.
Shin Bwi Yang, with a war air-field was once the biggest base camp of supplies. Overnight in Tanai.

DAY 5: TANAI - MOGAUNG BY CAR
Transfer to Mogaung where we will stay overnight.
Accommodation: Shwe Kaba guest house

DAY 6: MOGAUNG - MYITKYINA BY CAR
We shall visit Mogaung bridge and nearby areas. Overnight in Myitkyina.
Accommodation: Xing Xian hotel or similar

DAY 7: MYITKYINA - BHAMO BY BOAT OR BY CAR
The boat trip from Myitkyina to Bhamo is described to be one of a kind, passing through narrow gorges while savoring the natural beauty of the Ayeyarwaddy River. The cost on the public ferry for foreigners is about $20 per person and the journey takes approximately about 8 hours. The capacity is about 40-50 people.
(Private boat rental is about $250, 6 hours to Bhamo).
Note: A defile near SINBO has very strong current. If you do not wish to travel by boat, we will travel by car from Myitkyina to Bhamo instead. The journey by car takes approximately 10 hours. Overnight in Bhamo.

DAY 8: BHAMO - NAMKHAN - MUSE BY CAR
Early morning departure from Bhamo. Visit Namkhan including Dr. Gordon Seagrave’s hospital, Reclining Buddha and Namkhan Bazaar. Continue our journey to Muse (1.5 hours from Namkhan) where we will stay overnight.

DAY 9: MUSE - LASHIO - HSIPAW - MAYMYO BY CAR
Transfer to Maymyo traveling on the Burma Road.
Accommodation: Royal Park View hotel or similar

DAY 10: MAYMYO - MANDALAY BY CAR
We leave for Mandalay today (1.5 hours) after a brief visit around Maymyo.
Some sightseeing in Mandalay is also included. Overnight in Mandalay.
Accommodation: Sedona hotel Mandalay or similar

DAY 11: MANDALAY - BAGAN BY AIR
Transfer from hotel in Mandalay to Airport. Depending upon arrival time, we will have the opportunity to do some sightseeing in Bagan.
Accommodation: Bagan Golf resort or similar

DAY 12: BAGAN
At leisure in Bagan.
Accommodation: Bagan Golf resort or similar

DAY 13: BAGAN - YENANGYAUNG - MEIKHTILAR BY CAR
Transfer to Meikhtilar via Yenangyaung visiting the old oil fields in the area. Overnight in Meikhtilar.
Accommodation: Honey guest house

DAY 14: MEIKHTILAR - TAUNGOO BY CAR
Transfer to Taungoo and explore around town where it once used to be the training base for the “Flying Tigers”. Overnight in Taungoo.
Accommodation: Amazing Kaytu hotel or similar

DAY 15: TAUNGOO - RANGOON BY CAR
Transfer to Rangoon via Pegu (Bago). Late check in at hotel in Rangoon.
Accommodation: Sedona hotel or similar

DAY 16: DEPARTURE
Free at leisure. Hotel room is secured until departure.

NOTE: “Special Travel Permits” are required to travel to Mogoung Valley, Tanai and Shinbwinyang .
Our ground agents in Burma will obtain such permits on behalf of the travelers and therefore 30 days advance notice is required prior to arrival in Rangoon.
We shall do our best to make the arrangements as comfortable as possible, however, the itinerary is subject to change depending on confirmed flights, road conditions and availability of rooms.
